 THESE ARE THE AMENDED RULES

SURVEYING COMPETITION TO BE HELD AT HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE

Required Note Forms for Competition

EVENTS:

1. Horizontal Curve:  Teams will be given three (3) fixed points and either a fixed radius value (R) or a degree of curve (Dc).  Teams must set up and measure the deflection angle (∆) then calculate and correctly set the location of the P.C. and P.T.  Teams will then occupy the P.C., backsight the P.I. and use their calculated short chords and deflection angles to layout the curve at half-station (50’) intervals.

2. Leveling:  Each team will be required to start from a benchmark of known elevation and perform differential leveling operations to establish the elevation on another benchmark.

3. Pacing:  Each team will be given a starting and ending point along a predetermined route.  Each team will be allowed to have up to two teammates pace the line and report the paced distance.

4. The Plumb Bob:  In this event, each team will have only one team member hold a gamin reel at eye level while keeping the plumb bob held over the center of the hub.  The object will be to hold the plumb bob over the center of the hub without touching the hub for the longest period of time.

 TIMING OF EVENTS:

The judges will record the time for the three events listed above.  Each event will start and end at a designated point.  When a team completes an event, they need to check in with the judge to mark their time.  The student who checks in will be given the time.

SCORING FOR EACH EVENT:

EVENT 1:  Curve layout and all calculations will be checked for accuracy.  This is a timed event.

EVENT 2:  This event will be judged on accuracy and time.

EVENT 3:  This event will be judged exclusively on accuracy.

EVENT 4:  This event will be judged exclusively on time.
